Summit Engineering & Hydraulics Ltd

Rotorua Business of the Year 2003

First-time entrants, Summit won the Rotorua Business of the Year 2003 Award.

Frank Graham, one of the Business Awards judges who visited Summit, noticed the very positive staff relations in the workshops. “What struck us was the attitude of the staff we met during our visit. They seemed to be contented and even cheerful!”

Chris Joseph, Managing Director, has an easy and effective management style with an absolute focus on delivering quality outcomes for customers. “Three current members of the team have more than 20 years service; many others have more than five years. High priority is given to staff training and quality systems.”

Summit Engineering & Hydraulics Ltd commenced business in 1973 and quickly attained the status of one of the leading and most progressive Engine Reconditioners and Precision Engineering specialists in the country.  This reputation is still valid and enjoyed today, as their Automotive Division services a nation-wide customer base, particularly large fleet operators and contractors, service centres/garages, and other reconditioners specialising in diesel engine overhauls.

In 1980 Summit diversified its expansionary interests and acquired the only hydraulic specialist engineering company in Rotorua. The hydraulics division has grown to meet the demands of the Industrial and Mobile sectors mainly in the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions. However they also service a select group of clients further afield offering a complete range of Design, Manufacture, Site Installation, Field Service and Condition Monitoring Programme's to meet the needs of the largest and most complex hydraulic installations in the country.  Customers include Norske Skog Tasman, Carter Holt Pulp & Paper, Fletcher and the new groups, as well as extensive servicing of major forest harvesting contractors, haulage companies, and all facets of mobile, industrial, and agricultural hydraulic systems and components.

Summit attained ISO 9002 Quality Assurance (Telarc New Zealand) in January 1995, and maintains systems and standards accordingly.  WORKLINX is part of this system management.
